ELOQUENT | FONT OF THE WEEK

A font sample of the typeface called ‘Eloquently’

ELOQUENT | FONT OF THE WEEK

This week’s font review will focus on a font found on Veer.com called Eloquent.

Eloquent is a digital revival of an old Didone style—meaning in the style of Bodoni and Didot. The font evokes a late 1960’s flare commonly found in magazine advertising of that era. The typeface includes the rarely seen swash variant of the font and features newly created alternative swash caps (A, J, Q, Z, M, K, R) and one new alternative lowercase swash (s) and several lowercase ligatures. The font contains both lining figures and old style figures. This is a really beautiful version of this classic font.

THE MAN BEHIND THE FACE | JASON WALCOTT

Typographer and graphic designer, Jason Walcott.

Born in 1971 in Trenton, Michigan, Jason Walcott, typographer and creator of Jukebox is the man behind the creation of the Eloquent typeface. From 1989 to 1991 he attended The University of Maryland of College Park where he studies architecture and three dimensional design.

After a two year hiatus, he transferred to Kean College of New Jersey, where he graduated cum laude in 1997 with a BFA in illustration and graphic design. While at Kean College, he developed the love for typography that eventually led to the development of his first typeface, Holiday Times (shown in figure 1) in 2000. As his original collection of typefaces grew, he began to offer them commercially in mid 2001. In June of 2003, Walcott relaunched his font foundry as Jukebox after partnering with Veer Inc. Veer is now the sole distributor of Jukebox fonts in North America.
